RUSPIDGE MEMORIAL HALL(s) IS NOW 100 YEARS OLD!

A few facts:
– Alison Hudson funded this building in memory of her only son who sadly died during WW1.
– Original Alabaster memorial plaques adorn the walls, for WW1, WW2 and the Falklands conflict.
– Originally heated by coal – in 1958 this cost the equivalent of £600/month. Phew!
– Built on a hill, 2 halls were constructed – a smaller hall tucked under the main one.
– We suspect there was once an internal staircase linking them.
– The solid oak entrance door, is still looking good.
– The walls are solid stone, the roof Welsh slate.
– You can stand up beneath the top hall floor.
– Found here, amongst other things, were Woodbine cigarette packets, and fish paste pots. Yum.
100 years on, trustees have ensured Alison’s wishes that the hall be ‘kept for the use of the community’ have been followed. Her legacy lives on!
